New­ton re­bounds from lone de­feat

New­ton re­cov­ered from its first loss in a big way Fri­day, run­ning away from Jack­son, At­lanta on the road.

The Rams jumped out to a 23-2 lead and were able to hold on for a 56-27 vic­tory, three days af­ter fall­ing to Love­joy 43-38 on Tues­day.

Jalen Glover led the way, ty­ing his sea­son­high with 17 points for the sec­ond time this year. Glover had 12 in New­ton’s ex­plo­sive first quar­ter, be­fore the Rams went deep into their bench.

Af­ter giv­ing up two points in the first quar­ter, New­ton (5-1, 1-1 Re­gion 2-AAAAAA) al­lowed eight in the sec­ond, outscor­ing Jack­son 7-8 for a 3010 half­time lead.

New­ton con­tin­ued to pour it on af­ter half­time, lead­ing 50-15 af­ter three quar­ters.

Tay­lor Hawkins chipped in 11 points, Rashard Ca­bane nine and MJ Boykin eight for the Rams.

“It was a great bounce-back win for our team,” New­ton coach Rick Ras­mussen said.

New­ton played at pre­vi­ously ranked Cedar Shoals Satur­day night, in a game, which fin­ished af­ter press time, and hosts Jack­son, At­lanta Fri­day.
