Mccray named to TSN FCS All-american team
Here’s a weekly look at Covington’s former prep stars now in college: Football
Demetrius McCray, Newton — The Appalachian State senior was named to The Sporting News FCS All-American team.
It’s McCray’s second All- American honor, after receiving fourthteam honors from Phil Steele Publications in 2011. He tied for the Southern Conference lead with four intercep- tions in 2012, becoming the first Mountaineer cornerback to ever lead the league in interceptions twice ( he paced the SoCon with five INTs in 2011). The senior also led the team with eight passes defended, ranked sixth on the squad with 55 tackles from his cornerback position and forced a fumble. Like Kimbrough, he is one of 20 finalists for the Buchanan Award.
Shane Henry, Newton — Henry helped Georgia Perimeter College beat Oxford College on Monday, 73- 53 in a battle of former Newton standouts. Alex Ordu led Oxford against his former teammate and the Jaguars in front of Newton High’s current team.
Worrel Clahar, Alcovy — Clahar had 10 assists off the bench to help DePaul beat Milwaukee 84- 50 Sunday. It was DePaul’s fourth straight win, with the previous coming 74- 64 over Chicago State on Dec. 5. Clahar had 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals in that victory.
Stephen Croone, Newton — Furman 10 points, nine assists, four rebounds in 25 minutes in Furman’s 81- 57 win over Presbyterian.
