Crash on 138 kills pedes­trian with bike

CONY­ERS — A pedes­trian struck by a trac­tor trailer on Ga. High­way 138 Fri­day af­ter­noon died from his in­juries.

The ac­ci­dent oc­curred on Fri­day, around 2:20 p.m. on Ga. High­way 138 near South Main Street.

The man, be­lieved to be in his 60s, was push­ing a bi­cy­cle across Ga. High­way 138 when a trac­tor trailer trav­el­ing north­bound struck him.

The male pedes­trian was se­ri­ously in­jured and med­i­cal per­son­nel at­tempted CPR while en route to Rock­dale Med­i­cal Cen­ter.

How­ever, the pedes­trian died a short time later from in­juries sus­tained in the ac­ci­dent.

The name of the vic­tim is not be­ing re­leased at this time, pend­ing fam­ily no­ti­fi­ca­tion.

The north­bound lanes of Ga. High­way 138 were shut down dur­ing the ac­ci­dent in­ves­ti­ga­tion, but were re­opened at ap­prox­i­mately 3:30 p.m.
