Henry hits game-winner
Here’s a weekly look at Covington’s former prep stars now in college:
Derrick Henry, Newton — Henry hit one of two free throws with 3 seconds left to lift Winthrop over Ohio 50- 49 Saturday. Henry, who led the Eagles with 14 points, was fouled outside of the 3- point arc as he attempted to go to the basket.
The victory ended the Bobcats 16- game home winning streak and gave Winthrop its first non- conference road win since Dec. 15 last season.
Worrel Clahar, Alcovy — Clahar scored eight points and had six rebounds, coming up with two clutch free throws to help DePaul beat Northern Illinois 69- 64 Sunday. Clahar, along with Brandon Young hit two free throws in the final 15 seconds for the Blue Demons sixth straight win.
Clahar scored 14 points and had four rebounds and two assists in DePaul’s 78- 61 win over Arizona State Wednesday.
Shane Henry, Newton — Henry scored 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks off the bench for Georgia Perimeter in its 62- 51 loss to Aiken Technical College Saturday.
Stephen Croone, Newton — Croone was 1 of 8 shooting as Furman made just 30.8 percent ( 16 of 52) from the field in a 64- 50 loss to Auburn on Saturday. Croone finished with three points, three rebounds and two assists in the loss.
Jamon Hawkins, Newton — Hawkins scored 11 points and had three assists as Georgia Southwestern defeated visiting Clayton State 70- 54 on Saturday. He had five points in Georgia Southwestern’s 63- 59 win over Georgia College on Dec. 11.
Jordan Butts, Alcovy — Butts finished with 16 points and two assists as Belhaven went
on the road to beat Tougaloo College 71- 69 Saturday. He had one point on a free throw in Belhaven’s 80- 70 loss at Talladega College Friday.
Kate Palo, Alcovy — Palo scored two points, had two assists and one rebound in 9 minutes during Georgia College and State’s 75- 51 win over Francis Marion on Saturday.
Demetrius McCray, Newton — The Appalachian State cornerback finished 16th in Division I for the Buchanan Award.
