Here’s a weekly look at Cov­ing­ton’s former prep stars now in col­lege:


Der­rick Henry, New­ton — Henry hit one of two free throws with 3 sec­onds left to lift Winthrop over Ohio 50- 49 Satur­day. Henry, who led the Ea­gles with 14 points, was fouled out­side of the 3- point arc as he at­tempted to go to the bas­ket.

The vic­tory ended the Bob­cats 16- game home win­ning streak and gave Winthrop its first non- con­fer­ence road win since Dec. 15 last sea­son.

Wor­rel Cla­har, Al­covy — Cla­har scored eight points and had six re­bounds, coming up with two clutch free throws to help DePaul beat North­ern Illi­nois 69- 64 Sun­day. Cla­har, along with Bran­don Young hit two free throws in the fi­nal 15 sec­onds for the Blue De­mons sixth straight win.

Cla­har scored 14 points and had four re­bounds and two as­sists in DePaul’s 78- 61 win over Ari­zona State Wed­nes­day.

Shane Henry, New­ton — Henry scored 12 points, 10 re­bounds and three blocks off the bench for Ge­or­gia Perime­ter in its 62- 51 loss to Aiken Tech­ni­cal Col­lege Satur­day.

Stephen Croone, New­ton — Croone was 1 of 8 shoot­ing as Fur­man made just 30.8 per­cent ( 16 of 52) from the field in a 64- 50 loss to Auburn on Satur­day. Croone fin­ished with three points, three re­bounds and two as­sists in the loss.

Ja­mon Hawkins, New­ton — Hawkins scored 11 points and had three as­sists as Ge­or­gia South­west­ern de­feated vis­it­ing Clay­ton State 70- 54 on Satur­day. He had five points in Ge­or­gia South­west­ern’s 63- 59 win over Ge­or­gia Col­lege on Dec. 11.

Jor­dan Butts, Al­covy — Butts fin­ished with 16 points and two as­sists as Bel­haven went

on the road to beat Touga­loo Col­lege 71- 69 Satur­day. He had one point on a free throw in Bel­haven’s 80- 70 loss at Tal­ladega Col­lege Fri­day.

Kate Palo, Al­covy — Palo scored two points, had two as­sists and one re­bound in 9 min­utes dur­ing Ge­or­gia Col­lege and State’s 75- 51 win over Fran­cis Mar­ion on Satur­day.


Demetrius McCray, New­ton — The Ap­palachian State cor­ner­back fin­ished 16th in Di­vi­sion I for the Buchanan Award.
