Ge­orge Mar­ion Ver­hey of Cony­ers, GA died Thurs­day De­cem­ber 20, 2012 at his res­i­dence. He was born on April 5, 1918 in Pella, IA to James Henry and Laura Den Har­tog Ver­hey. He served in the US Army in Italy dur­ing WW II as part of the 10th Moun­tain Di­vi­sion. Dur­ing his ca­reer as a Costruc­tion En­gi­neer Ge­orge worked on projects such as Oak Ridge Na­tional Labrato- ry, At­lanta Harts­field Air­port, At­lanta Civic Cen­ter, Ge­or­gia World Congress Cen­ter, and var­i­ous other build­ings in the south­east­ern United States, pri­mar­ily with Steel In­cor­po­rated in Scot­dale, GA. He was a char­ter mem­ber of the Cony­ers Choral Guild. He was a mem­ber of Zion Bap­tist Church in Cov­ing­ton and was val­ued as a Bi­ble teacher, spritual leader, and was in­stru­men­tal in found­ing and sup­port­ing sev­eral area churches prior to his mem­ber­ship at Zion Bap­tist Church. Ge­orge was a de­voted hus­band, fa­ther, and grand­fa­ther, and left an out­stand­ing spritual legacy to his en­tire fam­ily and com­mu­nity.

Mr. Ver­hey is sur­vived by his wife of 50 years He­len Gil­reath Ver­hey of Cony­ers, GA; daugh­ter and son-in-law Pa­tri­cia and Bob An­der­son of Ekalaka, MT., son and daugh­ter-in-law James G. and Mar­i­lyn Ver­hey of Marietta, GA; step-son Dan Bruce of Cony­ers, GA; four grand­sons and their wives, four­teen great grand­chil­dren and four great great grand­chil­dren. He is pre­ceded in death by his first wife Frances Burgess Ver­hey, par­ents James Henry and Laura Den Har­tog Ver­hey, brother Keith Ver­hey, sis­ter Rosa Jane Et­tien.

Ser­vices will be held at 3:00 PM on Fri­day De­cem­ber 28, 2012 in chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Bob An­der­son and Rev. Reese San­ders of­fi­ci­at­ing.
