Mr. Raymond Byrd died June 25. He was born in Newton County in 1929, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Byrd. He was the seventh of eight children and was preceded in death by wife Claudia, son Larry, four sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Byrd was a long- time resident of Newton County until he moved to DeKalb County in early 2002 to live with his daughter Carolyn. He was a member of the Community Organization “Families of Chapel Hill” where he served as vice president. He was a faithful employee of Bibb Manufacturing in Porterdale. He enjoyed taking walks, spending time with his family and meeting new people, young or old.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children Mr. and Mrs. Earl (Carolyn) Romig of Decatur, the Rev. and Evangelist Willie (Gwendolyn) Smith of Covington, Mr. and Mrs. Randy (Shelia) Byrd, of Covington, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy (Tyjuan) Byrd, of Conyers; brother Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Leroy (Cora) Byrd; grandchildren Jeffrey, Connie, Dion, Timothy Jr. and Shawarner; great-grandchildren Danquarius, JeNya, Kennedy, Malajah, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held June 29 at Sims Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil J. - terment followed at Sims Chapel Cemetery. Family and friends acted as pallbearers and
