Prin­ci­pal named for New­ton High

A Grif­fin-Spald­ing County mid­dle-school prin­ci­pal has been named the new prin­ci­pal of New­ton High School.

The New­ton County Board of Ed­u­ca­tion named Eclan David as the new NHS prin­ci­pal at its meet­ing Tues­day. The BOE unan­i­mously ap­proved the de­ci­sion af­ter an ex­ec­u­tive ses­sion.

New­ton County Schools Su­per­in­ten­dent Sa­man­tha Fuhrey said David has 11 years’ ex­pe­ri­ence as a school ad­min­is­tra­tor in the Grif­fin-Spald­ing School Sys­tem, in­clud­ing nine years as a prin­ci­pal at Carver Road Mid­dle School in Grif­fin.

“Mr. David is highly re­garded in the Grif­fin- Spauld­ing School Sys­tem, and I am pleased that he has elected to work in the New­ton County School Sys­tem,” Fuhrey said. “He has a proven track record, and it has pre­pared him well to con­tinue the tremen­dous progress that the New­ton County School Sys­tem has made over the last three years.”

David said he hopes to be here in New­ton County full­time next week. He said this will be his first time work­ing at a high school.

David has a bach­e­lor’s de­gree in el­e­men­tary ed­u­ca­tion from Tuskegee Univer­sity in Tuskegee, Ala.; an M.Ed. de­gree in ed­u­ca­tional ad­min­is­tra­tion and lead­er­ship from the Univer­sity of West Ge­or­gia; and a Ph.D. in ed­u­ca­tional ad­min­is­tra­tion and pol­icy from the Univer­sity of Ge­or­gia.
