Job seek­ers in­vited to Expo

The Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of La­bor’s (GDOL) Gwin­nett Ca­reer Cen­ter and the Nor­cross Co­op­er­a­tive Min­istries will spon­sor the Sev­enth An­nual Ca­reerFest Expo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 18 at the First United Methodist Church, 2500 Beaver Ruin Road, Nor­cross.

The expo will fea­ture a num­ber of em­ploy­ers, ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tions and re­source agen­cies to as­sist job seek­ers. Some em­ploy­ers will be hir­ing, while oth­ers will dis­cuss pos­si­ble fu­ture em­ploy­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties.

Other or­ga­ni­za­tions will pro­vide ed­u­ca­tional and other re­sources.

Ap­pli­cants should bring plenty of re­sumes and be pre­pared to fill out com­pany ap­pli­ca­tions and in­ter­view for avail­able job open­ings.

At­ten­dees are en­cour­aged to dress ap­pro­pri­ately to im­prove their op­por­tu­ni­ties for job open­ings.

The expo also will fea­ture sev­eral work­shops on re­sume-writ­ing and other tech­niques used in a job search.

Althea Bar­nette, se­nior train­ing con­sul­tant with GDOL, will present “What’s in Your Tool­box?” at 9:15 a.m. Those who at­tend this sem­i­nar will be the first al­lowed into the ca­reer expo.

Also, Eric Han­dler, an ex­ec­u­tive search con­sul­tant and job search ex­pert from Han­dler & As­so­ciates, will present “Us­ing LinkedIn To Speed Up The Job Search.” Miriam Salpeter, of Kep­pie Ca­reers, will con­duct a ses­sion on “The Im­por­tance of So­cial Me­dia in Job Search.”

Tamika Condé, pro­ject di­rec­tor for AARP, will ad­dress is­sues fac­ing job seek­ers over age 50.

Among those ex­pected to par­tic­i­pate in the event are A Friend of the Fam­ily Staffing, AFLAC, Al­lied Bar­ton Se­cu­rity Ser­vice, AT&T, At­lanta Elec­tri­cal Con­trac­tors, Avon, Bobby Dodd Or­ga­ni­za­tion, Com­cast-Ca- ble, CSR-Sup­port, Farm­ers In­sur­ance Group, Fas­te­nal Co., Fed­eral Bureau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion (FBI), Gen­uine Parts, Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of Driver Ser­vices, Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of Ju­ve­nile Jus­tice, Gwin­nett County Pub­lic Schools-Trans­porta­tion, Hire Dy­nam­ics, Le­gal Shield, Lowe’s Home Cen­ters, Man­power, Mil­len­nium Se­cu­rity Ser­vices, Perime­ter Staffing Place­ments, Res­o­lute, Spec­trum Staffing, Staffing Ad­van- tage, Su­per H-Mart, The Im­pact Group, TRC Staffing and the Vet Cen­ter in Lawrenceville.
