Cov­ing­ton Cen­tury Ride ap­proaches

An­nual ride, fea­tures 13-, 38-, 67- and 100-mile race op­tions

The Cov­ing­ton Cen­tury Ride, spon­sored by the South­ern Bi­cy­cle League, will be Aug. 3. Regis­tra­tion is avail­able up to and on the day of the event.

“We’ve got 25 spon­sors, a huge beach party af­ter the ride, live en­ter­tain­ment and so much go­ing on for the day,” said Char­lotte Kuehn, a ride di­rec­tor for the South­ern Bi­cy­cle League.

The ride con­sists of sev­eral route op­tions through­out New­ton County, in­clud­ing 13-, 38-, 67 -and 100-mile routes.

The start­ing and fin­ish lines for all are lo­cated at the New­ton Con­fer­ence Cen­ter at Ge­or­gia Pied­mont Tech­ni­cal Col­lege in Ox­ford.

Regis­tra­tion prior to the day of the event is avail­able on­line at cov­ing­ton­cen­tury. com and costs $35 for mem­bers of the South­ern Bi­cy­cle League and $45 for non­mem­bers. On the day of the ride, the cost is $50.

Last year, the ride had more than 1,000 par­tic­i­pants, and this year that num­ber is ex­pected to in­crease. Res­i­dents of New­ton County are in­vited to come out and see the rid­ers pass by. There will be one mass start for all rides at 7 a.m. ac­com­pa­nied by po­lice es­corts.
