NCSO hosts Amer­ica’s Night Out

The Elling­ton com­mu­nity is signed up to par­tic­i­pate lo­cally in the an­nual Amer­ica’s Night Out Against Crime, cel­e­brated for the last three decades dur­ing the month of Au­gust.

The event will take place on Tues­day, be­gin­ning at 5 p. m.

Other neigh­bor­hoods are urged to con­tact the New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice to par­tic­i­pate in the out­reach pro­gram. The NCSO will pro­vide speak­ers and make pre­sen­ta­tions about safety is­sues that are of con­cern for each neigh­bor­hood.

“Ba­si­cally, it’s for the com­mu­nity to take a stand against crime and let crim­i­nals know they are not go­ing to tol­er­ate it, nor is the Sher­iff’s Of­fice go­ing to tol­er­ate it. It’s a time for us to come to­gether and make a state­ment,” NCSO Pub­lic In­for­ma­tion Of­fi­cer Cort­ney Mor­ri­son said.

Amer­ica’s Night Out Against Crime, is cel­e­brated in all 50 states, Cana­dian cities and mil­i­tary bases world­wide, ac­cord­ing to the event’s web­site,

The pro­gram is de­signed to in­crease aware­ness of pro­grams of­fered by law en­force­ment and anti- crime ef­forts as well as in­crease “neigh­bor­hood spirit.”
