James Thomas ( J. T.) Beasley

SPARTA – Mr. James Thomas (J. T.) Beasley of Sparta and orig­i­nally from Ox­ford, Ga., ended his four-year bat­tle with fail­ing health Aug. 1 at his res­i­dence in the Pow­el­ton Com­mu­nity.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 50 years, Myr­tle Hodges Beasley; three sons, Ricky Joe Beasley and wife, Mary, of New­born, Ron­nie Beasley of Shady Dale, Don­nie Beasley and wife, Mer­lene, of Mans Christina Carter of New­born, and J. R. and wife, Misty, of Cov­ing­ton; ex­tended fam­ily mem­ber, Ne­vach Ar­mis­tead; and brother, Her­bert Beasley of Cov­ing­ton. He was pre­ceded in death by his great-grand­son, Ja­son James Beasley.

Fu­neral ar­range­ments are in­com­plete and will be an­nounced later.

Mrs. Gertrude Watts Holton

Wheeler Fu­neral Home

Mrs. Gertrude Watts Holton, 66, of Cov­ing­ton passed away Aug. 3, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hos­pi­tal in Athens. Mrs. Holton was born in Cairo, Ga., to the late Clarence E. and Dev­ery John­son Watts. She was a loving mother and grand­mother who hike. She was a very de­voted and ded­i­cated mem­ber of Solid Rock Bap­tist Church in Cov­ing­ton.

Mrs. Holton was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Harvey Holton, and is sur­vived by her sons, Robert Holton of Penn­syl­va­nia and Ti­mothy Holton of Cov­ing­ton; a brother, Ron­ald Watts of Tifton, Ga., and three grand­chil­dren.

Ser­vices for Mrs. Holton will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at Solid Rock Bap­tist Church, with Pas­tor - at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial Park.

The fam­ily will re­ceive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Wheeler Fu­neral - ers, do­na­tions can be made to the Solid Rock Bap­tist Church Gen­eral Fund.

Vi­vian P. White

Vi­vian P. White of Cov­ing­ton passed away Aug. 1, 2013, at the age of 85.

Mrs. White was born Au­gust 8, 1927, in Jack­son, to the late Walthal and Ver­nita (Kitchens) Pope. She and her hus­band, Lewis B. White, mar­ried Oct. 18, 1947, and the two of them then moved to Cov­ing­ton. Mrs. White was a ded­i­cated mem­ber of the First Bap­tist Church for 58 years, where she was a mem­ber of the Glean­ers Sun­day School Class. In ad­di­tion, she was a long­time, ac­tive mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Le­gion Aux­il­iary. Mrs. White worked for both Fowler Fer­til­izer Co. and the Bank of Cov­ing­ton be­fore re­tir­ing in 1997.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band; her par­ents; her sis­ter, Thelma Flem­ing; and her broth­ers, Roland Pope and LaDon Pope.

Sur­vivors in­clude her son and daugh­ter- in- law, My­ron and Brenda White; grand­daugh­ter, Abby White, all of Hi­ram; sis­ter, An­nette Shoults of Tucker; broth­ers, Jerry Pope of De­catur, Dennis Pope of Brasel­ton; sis­ters- in- law, Reba McCart of Cov­ing­ton of Rich­mond, Va.; as well as sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Fu­neral ser­vices for Mrs. White will be at 1:30 p.m. to­day, Aug. 4, at First Bap­tist Church, in Cov­ing­ton, with the Rev. Charles Reynolds - ter­ment fol­low­ing in Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial - ers, do­na­tions may be made to the Sanc­tu­ary Ren­o­va­tion Fund at First Bap­tist Church, 1139 Usher St., Cov­ing­ton, GA 30014.
