SPARTA – Mr. James Thomas (J. T.) Beasley of Sparta and originally from Oxford, Ga., ended his four-year battle with failing health Aug. 1 at his residence in the Powelton Community.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Myrtle Hodges Beasley; three sons, Ricky Joe Beasley and wife, Mary, of Newborn, Ronnie Beasley of Shady Dale, Donnie Beasley and wife, Merlene, of Mans Christina Carter of Newborn, and J. R. and wife, Misty, of Covington; extended family member, Nevach Armistead; and brother, Herbert Beasley of Covington. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Jason James Beasley.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.

Mrs. Gertrude Watts Holton

Mrs. Gertrude Watts Holton, 66, of Covington passed away Aug. 3, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. Mrs. Holton was born in Cairo, Ga., to the late Clarence E. and Devery Johnson Watts. She was a loving mother and grandmother who hike. She was a very devoted and dedicated member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Covington.
Mrs. Holton was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Holton, and is survived by her sons, Robert Holton of Pennsylvania and Timothy Holton of Covington; a brother, Ronald Watts of Tifton, Ga., and three grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Holton will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at Solid Rock Baptist Church, with Pastor - ating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Wheeler Funeral - ers, donations can be made to the Solid Rock Baptist Church General Fund.

Vivian P. White of Covington passed away Aug. 1, 2013, at the age of 85.
Mrs. White was born August 8, 1927, in Jackson, to the late Walthal and Vernita (Kitchens) Pope. She and her husband, Lewis B. White, married Oct. 18, 1947, and the two of them then moved to Covington. Mrs. White was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church for 58 years, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. In addition, she was a longtime, active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. White worked for both Fowler Fertilizer Co. and the Bank of Covington before retiring in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Thelma Fleming; and her brothers, Roland Pope and LaDon Pope.
Survivors include her son and daughter- in- law, Myron and Brenda White; granddaughter, Abby White, all of Hiram; sister, Annette Shoults of Tucker; brothers, Jerry Pope of Decatur, Dennis Pope of Braselton; sisters- in- law, Reba McCart of Covington of Richmond, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. White will be at 1:30 p.m. today, Aug. 4, at First Baptist Church, in Covington, with the Rev.
