Getting kids back to school
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the Washington Street Community Center and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Chi Tau Omega chapter), assisted more than 1,600 students at its 2013 Back to School Celebration on July 28.
The NCSO thanks the many contributors and more than 100 volunteers who took part, as well as the offices of Rep. Pamela Dickerson and Congressman Hank Johnson.
The Deputies Who Care program is already planning for the 2014 celebration and is seeking community partners to help it assist 5,000 students next year.
Donations can be delivered in person or mailed to NCSO, 15151 Alcovy-Jersey Road, NE, Covington, Ga., 30014. Checks should be payable to Deputies Who Care.
