Covington through the camera
At first, I was apprehensive about visiting Oakland Cemetery. But it proved to be a fascinating place. Oakland Cemetery is at 248 Oakland Ave. SE, in Atlanta. Important Atlanta figures are represented here, including Civil War soldiers, leaders of industry and Civil Rights pioneers. You will find stunning art and architecture as you walk the grounds. Margaret Mitchell, author of “Gone with the Wind,” is among the many notables laid to rest in this historic part of Atlanta.
Guided tours are available, but if you want to tour the cemetery at your own pace as I did, there also are several options for self-guided tours. You can check out all the info at www.oaklandcemetery.com.
