Ar­rest made in break-in spree

A 21-year-old man has been ar­rested in con­nec­tion with a rash of auto break-ins in south­ern New­ton County from mid-July through early Au­gust.

Justin Vaughn James is charged with 18 counts of sec­ond-de­gree bur­glary in con­nec­tion with 18 auto break-ins.

Vic­tims and wit­nesses helped to iden­tify the sus­pect, ac­cord­ing to the New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice. One vic­tim was able to get a li­cense tag num­ber from a ve­hi­cle seen leav­ing the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are await­ing re­sults from DNA tests on blood col­lected from crime scenes. The method of en­try was al­ways forced through the pas­sen­ger or driver’s side win­dow, and only items within reach were taken, au­thor­i­ties said.
