The fam­ily of Etha Kath­leen (Wil­son) Carter John­son an­nounces the per­ma­nent re­lo­ca­tion of the “Happy House.” Born in 1915, in Wal­ton County, Mrs. John­son cel­e­brated her age of 97 on Septem­ber 15. A lady of great faith, she was an ac­tive mem­ber of Por­terdale Bap­tist Church in her early years and had been a de­voted mem­ber of the First Bap­tist Church of Cov­ing­ton since 1963. She was em­ployed as a win­der ten­der for Bibb Man­u­fac­tur­ing Co. for 36 years, and was a mem­ber, for more than 30 years, of the Por­terdale Woman’s Club, where she de­vel­oped and nur­tured many last­ing friend­ships. She was a de­voted wife, mother, grand­mother and friend. Mrs. John­son’s spe­cial gift of hos­pi­tal­ity made those who vis­ited her home feel wel­comed, and they fondly re­ferred to her home as the “Happy House.” She en­joyed trav­el­ing, cook­ing, and en­gag­ing in the lives of her fam­ily and friends. She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, John Carter; sec­ond hus­band, Al­ton John­son; son, Ron­ald Carter; and her grand­daugh­ter, Stephanie Carter.

Sur­vivors in­clude her sons and daugh­ters-in­law, Johnny and Har­riet Carter, Don Carter, Pete and Gail Carter; daugh­ter-in-law, Libby Carter; step-daugh­ter, Louise McGi­boney; 13 grand­chil­dren; 24 great-grand­chil­dren; and three great-great-grand­chil­dren. A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs­day, Sept. 19, at the First Bap­tist Church of Cov­ing­ton, with the Rev. J. J. Wil­son and the Rev. Charles In­ter­ment will fol­low in Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial Park. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at Cald­well & Cowan Fu­neral Home, 1215 Ac­cess Road, Cov­ing­ton, from 5 to 8 p.m. to­day, Sept. 18.
