Speaking Out

The Covington News - - OPINION -

Facebook responses on what should be done to keep Covington’s homeless shelter open” Daniel Hampton: I think we can save the shelter as a community. Not everyone chooses to be homeless ... Traci Gillam Barlow: My husband and I have always donated clothing, toys and sometimes even furniture. We were told at one point to stop donating because they were over-run with non-monetary donations. I would donate again to help them stay open, but if the people that manage the finances at the shelter are not responsible enough to manage the money properly ... what would be the point? Maybe some accountability is in order before the county makes the decision to close or keep open. A review of how they spend their money might help. Casey Bailey: I agree that the shelter should be saved. There are so many families and people that are on hard times and find themselves in a situation where they have nowhere to go. It’s sad and the community should help and get involved.
