The Eastside Eagles varsity baseball team led the year off for the Eagles with a bang, capturing the Region 8-AAAA title in 2013.

The Eagles needed help entering the end of their regular season, but took care of rival Chestatee 10-4 and 7-2 to set themselves up with an opportunity to claim the region crown after falling to Lumpkin County just a day before sweeping the War Eagles.

Lanier had a chance to clinch the region title with a win over Walnut Grove, but the Warriors swept Lanier 5-4 and 16-2 to put the Eagles in sole possession of first place.

The win gave the Eagles the No. 1 seed from Region 8-AAAA.

Eastside eventually lost in the first round of the state playoffs to Troup County, but the region title was enough for the Eagles to celebrate a 21-7 season.

“I am very happy for our school, our community and most importantly for our players,” Eastside coach Jon Ayres said. “The region championship is a product of hard work and support from everyone involved with Eastside Eagle Baseball.”
