The Covington City Council is expected to vote Monday to reconstruct Wheat Street, which has a lot of deterioration, according to city officials. The road would have to rebuilt by pulverizing the existing asphalt pavement and creating a cement-asphalt base with a separate asphalt surface. The road could also be expanded to three lanes, if the City Council chooses. The two-lane repair low bid was for $330,872, while the three-lane bid was for $384,978. City staff is recommending the threelane project. State and local SPLOST money would be used.
