Students learn through serving others
On Friday, Dec. 20, 4th-through 8th- grade students from Montessori School of Covington focused on what they could do for others rather than what they could receive. Students held a food, clothing and used toy drive during December at the school, and on Friday took hundreds of donated food items to Willing Helpers Food Pantry.
Jack Vanderzwart, who runs the pantry, taught the students how the pantry operates, who donates their time and resources to the pantry and how the pantry helps those struggling to get back on their feet. The students spent the next few hours sorting cans and boxes of donated foods in preparation for them being shelved for families who would later come in to “shop.”
