Ex­cite­ment has been cre­ated in the past few months by the con­struc­tion go­ing on in the new Newton Plaza Shop­ping Center on the north side of High­way 278. In the pic­ture above, Sears Cat­a­log Sur­plus and Cat­a­log Sales Store and Royal Mattress Store are al­ready open for busi­ness. Fabrific Fab­rics will open soon.

Other busi­nesses that will be in the shop­ping center are Can­ter­bury Arts and Crafts, Pay­less Shoes, Green Onion Sand­wich Shop, Kroger, Su­per X Drugs, a fur­ni­ture store, Harper’s 5 & 10 Cents Store, a sport­ing goods store, South­ern Bell Tele- phone Com­pany, Army and Navy Re­cruit­ing Of­fices, Dol­lar Stores, Cov­ing­ton Beauty Schools, A&P, Dobbs House Sand­wich Shop and a bar­ber­shop. Com­ple­tion of the shop­ping center and oc­cu­pancy are ex­pected over the next three to six months.


Kroger is the only orig­i­nal store left in Newton Plaza.
