New­ton County Schools po­etry win­ners

Seven New­ton County School Sys­tem ele­men­tary schools and all of the sys­tem’s mid­dle schools re­cently held po­etry com­pe­ti­tions through­out the schools and dif­fer­ent grade lev­els. Com­peti­tors were judged in the po­etry recita­tion con­test on cri­te­ria such as stage pres­ence, ar­tic­u­la­tion, in­ter­pre­ta­tion, mem­ory and ac­cu­racy, and dif­fi­culty of the piece.

Recita­tion win­ners were kinder­gart­ner Rosa Abra­ham of West New­ton Ele­men­tary for “Me”; first-grader Ni­col Vives of West New­ton Ele­men­tary for “An Ir­ri­tat­ing Crea­ture”; se­cond-grader Micah Mitchell of Rocky Plains Ele­men­tary for “Daddy Fell into the Pond”; third-grader Cole Shan­non of New­ton County Theme School for “How to Tor­ture Your Teacher”; fourth-grader Lily Cun­nitte of New­ton County Theme School for “A Visit from St. Ni­cholas”; fifth-grader Mor­gan Hathorn of New­ton County Theme School for “Out of the Shad­ows,”; sixth-grader Ans­ley Anglin of Lib­erty Mid­dle School for “Life is a Priv­i­lege”; sev­enth-grader Marissa Gray of Cle­ments Mid­dle School for “Earth Poem”; and eight-grader Ja­niah Glan­ton of Lib­erty Mid­dle School for “Life is a Priv­i­lege.”
