Newton Athlete of the Week: Guard D.J. Hill
After leading the Newton Rams to a pair of back-to-back wins over rivals Salem and Rockdale County, Newton guard D.J. Hill has been named the Rams' Athlete of the Week.
In the Rams' 65-49 victory over the Bulldogs Wednesday night, Hill led Newton in scoring with 19 points, including seven points in the second quarter.
The win helped moved the Rams above .500 in region play, giving Newton its third region victory of the season.
Four nights earlier, Hill led Newton with nine assists in the Rams' 72-45 blowout over Salem.
In the Rams' last loss to Luella on Jan. 3, the junior guard had 14 points and three assists.
Hill and the Rams re- turn to action Saturday at home against Eastside in their third rivalry contests in as many games.
Game time against the Eagles is set for 6:30 p.m.
Newton returns to region action on Jan. 14 at home against Druid Hills.
The game against the Red Devils is part of a four-game home stretch for the Rams, which ends on Jan. 17 against Lovejoy.
Newton guard D.J. Hill has been racking up points and assists in the Rams' past few games, thus earning Athlete of the Week honors.
