Speaking Out

The Covington News - - OPINION -

Below are some selected Facebook comments from readers concerning “Nelson Heights gets $8,000 more in funding”

Dennis Taylor: This is money that was not in the budget. The millage rate property was raised to give them $32,000 in the budget. They went over, so now the board gives them $8000 more? Where is it coming from? Another tax increase this year? What about the promise by the board to lower the millage rate back to 10.91? Is this how our governmental departments get more money? By exceeding their budgets? How could they be allowed to go over budget when you have Both the Chairman Ellis and Commissioner Henderson sitting on this board? Does this show their real management skills? Didn’t the last board BLAST the sheriff for going over budget? Is supporting this joint private, government program more important than struggling home owners, county employees, sheriff , and fire department needs? Isn’t what they are doing what we already pay tax for our schools to do? I don’t recall seeing any of these community centers in North part of the county and we make it fine. We as parents have to work with our children with our own money when they need additional help- like hire tutors. Are we supposed to pay tax increases in the other areas of the county just to support everything Henderson and Ellis wants for district 4?
