Goode, Reynolds are NCHS ‘Band Members of the Month’

The Covington News - - LOOKING BACK -

The band member of the month of December was Steve Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Reynolds of Covington Mills. Steve is a senior at Newton and has been a band member all of his four years of high school and is manager of the band this year.

Steve plays solo cornet during concert season, and he plays Herald trumpet during Marching season. Steve is also active in the Senior Hi-Y at school and The Covington Mills Methodist Church.

Miss Elise Goode, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin E. Gode, has been chosen as Rookie of the Month for December. Elise has shown outstanding work in her first year of band at NCHS. Elise is a freshman and is active in the Alpha Tri- Hi-Y, the Book Club, and the First Methodist Church of Covington.

We want to wish the best to those chosen this month.

This was an article that was written back in 1959, 55 years ago. Times have really changed since then. NCHS is now strictly just NHS, the school has relocated to new destinations twice since then, and there is no longer any recognition by the school for “Band Member of the Month”.

Today at NHS, you are recognized in band when you earn a scholarship, and have committed to go off to college.
