At­lanta Area Coun­cil Ban­quet Tues­day At Din­kler Plaza Ho­tel

The 45th An­nual Din­ner of all dis­tricts of the At­lanta Area Coun­cil will be held on Jan­uary 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Din­kler Plaza Ho­tel.

This an­nounce­ment was made to­day by John H. Stem­bler, Pres­i­dent of the At­lanta Area Coun­cil. Mr. Hugh Comer, Mem­ber of the Na­tional Ex­ec­u­tive Board of the Boy Scouts of Amer­ica and Pres­i­dent of the Comer-Avon­dale Mills, Inc., will be the prin­ci­pal speaker.

At this meet­ing, awards of the Sil­ver Beaver will be made along with other recog­ni­tions.

Mr. Comer is an out­stand­ing speaker who at present is serv­ing as Pres­i­dent of the Choc­colocco Coun­cil, Boy Scouts of Amer­ica, An­nis­ton, Alabama.

His con­nec­tion with Scout­ing is not only lo­cal, but re­gional, and na­tional. He has long been in­ter­ested in the de­vel­op­ment of youth through the uti­liza­tion of the Boy Scout pro­gram.

Mr. Comer has been a leader the tex­tile field of the South. He started work for Avon­dale Mills upon his grad­u­a­tion from the Univer­sity of Alabama in 1914. He was vice pres­i­dent and di­rec­tor of Avon­dale Mills from 1927 un­til 1940, when he be­came ex­ec­u­tive vice-pres­i­dent.

He was elected pres­i­dent and trea­surer of the com­pany in July 1945. He is also a di­rec­tor of the com­pany. He is pres­i­dent and di­rec­tor of Comer-Avon­dale Mills, Inc., New York, and di­rec­tor of South­east­ern Cot­tons, Inc.

One of the col­or­ful parts of this pro­gram will be the award­ing of the Sil­ver Beaver for dis­tin­guished ser­vice to youth to ten out­stand­ing Scouters of the At­lanta Area Coun­cil. Recog­ni­tion will be given to out­go­ing and in­com­ing Of­fi­cers of the Coun­cil.
