Do volunteers get anything?

The Covington News - - FROM FRONT PAGE -

Volunteer firefighters do not get paid at all. They can apply to the Georgia Firefighters’ Pension Fund and receive a $25 monthly contribution to a pension fund for them to receive when they retire. The county pays the $25 to the fund, which is administered by the state, Newton County Fire Chief O’Brien said.

If volunteers want to get the pension, they have to complete annual training.

O’Brien said the county currently has three to four former volunteers drawing money from the fund.
