Golf tour­na­ment funds fire­works

It’s not quite Christ­mas in June, but July 4 cel­e­bra­tions are set to be­gin early in So­cial Cir­cle this year.

The City of So­cial Cir­cle is host­ing its Fire­works Fundraiser Golf Tour­na­ment Fri­day, June 13 to raise money for its city-wide In­de­pen­dence Day cel­e­bra­tion hap­pen­ing later this month.

The 18-hole golf tour­na­ment will be held at Hard La­bor Creek Park with reg­is­tra­tion at 11 a.m. and tee-off at noon.

City Man­ager Doug White said there are 10 teams or­ga­nized to par­tic­i­pate so far and that he hopes many more reg­is­ter. To-play fees are $75 for an in­di­vid­ual player and $100 for a team. Teams may spon­sor their busi­ness or group at the tour­na­ment. Lunch will be pro­vided by Chick-Fil-A be­fore tee-off. All pro­ceeds go to costs for the Satur­day, June 28 In­de­pen­dence Day Cel­e­bra­tion, White said. A pa­rade through down­town So­cial Cir­cle will be­gin at So­cial Cir­cle High School and end at the old foot­ball field, where live mu­sic will en­ter­tain the pub­lic.

Be­gin­ning at 5:30 p.m., the pa­rade will be ac­com­pa­nied by the 116th Army Band from Ma­ri­etta, and the best float will re­ceive a $200 prize.

“It’s a bring your lounge chairs and sit on the field and en­joy type of event,” White said.

At 6:30 p.m. the pa­rade will end at Stephens Park, where Char­lotte Ritchie will per­form a gospel con­cert.

Food ven­dors, in­clud­ing grilled hot­dogs from the fire depart­ment, ice cream, Ital­ian ice and BBQ from Big Kev’s Bar­beque and Cater­ing will be avail­able.
