Hav­ing a con­structed kayak launch at the Por­terdale Yel­low River Park of­fers more than just an en­joy­able, re­lax­ing day to kayak­ers; the com­mu­nity and the river it­self stand to gain from

-Lo­cal rev­enue: With the Mel­low on the Yel­low Sum­mer Se­ries us­ing the launch, YRWT can des­ig­nate the Por­terdale sec­tion as a wa­ter trail to bring more pub­lic­ity through state web­sites, ac­cord­ing to La­mar Brown, owner of Por­terdale Yak Club. Non-New­ton County res­i­dents will hope­fully see the Por­terdale Mill Vil­lage Sec­tion as part of the Ge­or­gia River Trails, use the area for sport­ing and stay for a meal in Por­terdale.

-Cleaner rivers: Brown said pad­dlers are usu­ally a “group of people who ac­tu­ally have a con­cern for the en­vi­ron­ment.” YRWT pad­dlers and other kayak­ers of­ten pick up

-Food do­na­tions: Kayak­ers who come with their own boats but want to be dropped off or picked up from a launch can be shut­tled by Por­terdale Yak Club, Brown said, in ex­change for non-per­ish­ables food items the Yak Club do­nates to the Com­mu­nity Food Pantry.
