Having a constructed kayak launch at the Porterdale Yellow River Park offers more than just an enjoyable, relaxing day to kayakers; the community and the river itself stand to gain from
-Local revenue: With the Mellow on the Yellow Summer Series using the launch, YRWT can designate the Porterdale section as a water trail to bring more publicity through state websites, according to Lamar Brown, owner of Porterdale Yak Club. Non-Newton County residents will hopefully see the Porterdale Mill Village Section as part of the Georgia River Trails, use the area for sporting and stay for a meal in Porterdale.
-Cleaner rivers: Brown said paddlers are usually a “group of people who actually have a concern for the environment.” YRWT paddlers and other kayakers often pick up
-Food donations: Kayakers who come with their own boats but want to be dropped off or picked up from a launch can be shuttled by Porterdale Yak Club, Brown said, in exchange for non-perishables food items the Yak Club donates to the Community Food Pantry.
