3 ac­quit­ted in prison beat­ing in Ma­con

MA­CON, Ga. (AP) — A jury has ac­quit­ted three Ma­con State Prison em­ploy­ees of federal charges re­lated to in­mate beat­ings.

The Tele­graph news­pa­per re­ports (http://bit.ly/1qAs­dfM ) jurors ac­quit­ted deputy war­den James Hin­ton, along with Cor­rec­tions Emer­gency Re­sponse Team mem­bers Tyler Grif­fin and Der­rick Wim­bush. The ver­dict came around 8 p.m. Fri­day.

Federal au­thor­i­ties had said the three, along with three other guards, con­spired to beat in­mates to re­tal­i­ate for as­saults on guards in Oc­to­ber and De­cem­ber 2010. Prose­cu­tors said the group also con­spired to cover up the beat­ings.

The Tele­graph re­ports the other team mem­bers were ac­quit­ted on some counts but were also found guilty on some charges.
