Deer Run takes ti­tle at Rock­dale County Swim League Cham­pi­onship

For the last three years the Cov­ing­ton YMCA has been the Rock­dale County Swim League Cham­pion, but now its reign has come to an end as Deer Run took the ti­tle this past Satur­day.

Over 300 Rock­dale Swim League swim­mers con­verged on John­son Park to com­pete in the Rock­dale County Swim League Cham­pi­onship. Brent­wood, Cov­ing­ton YMCA, Deer Run, Mead­ow­brook and Westch­ester Lakes swim teams par­tic­i­pated in dual meets through­out the month of June in prepa­ra­tion for the cham­pi­onship meet held on Satur­day, June 21, 2014.

The 10 and un­der age group swim­mers started the com­pe­ti­tion in the morn­ing ses­sion.

An­nalise Digby from the Westch­ester Wa­hoos and Lyn­nette Smith from Deer Run swam to tie for first place high points in the girls six and un­der cat­e­gory. Sec­ond place high points re­peated a tie be­tween Lo­ralai Slaw­in­ski of Mead­ow­brook and Ally Bar­nett from Brent­wood Bar­racu­das. Third place high points went to Lyla Leonard of the Westch­ester Wa­hoos.

6 and un­der boys

Cole Berry of Brent­wood took home first place high points. Sec­ond place high points went to Reed Hud­son of the Cov­ing­ton YMCA Pi­ran­has. Jack Sul­li­van of the Westch­ester Wa­hoos and Gavin McGinnis of Mead­ow­brook tied for third place.

7/8 girls

Kala Berry of Brent­wood took the 50-free, 10- in­di­vid­ual med­ley and 25- fly and took home the first place high points tro­phy in the seven/ eight girls cat­e­gory. Sarah Digby of Westch­ester was awarded sec­ond place high points. Deer Run’s Kase­lynn Mitchell and Emma Lin­dell both tied for third place high points.

7/8 boys

Emery Langston of the Cov­ing­ton YMCA won the first place high points tro­phy. Max Guada­gao of Mead­ow­brook and Liam Long of Westch­ester tied for the sec­ond place tro­phy and Caleb Riser of Cov­ing­ton Y took home the tro­phy for third place high points.

9/10 girls

Emma Brock of the Deer Run Dol­phins took the nine/10 girls first place high points tro­phy swim­ming a per­fect score in the 100-in­di­vid­ual med­ley, 25-breast­stroke and 25-back­stroke. Gia-An May­nard from Westch­ester took sec­ond place high points. Laura Goldgar from Deer Run and Emma Leonard from the Westch­ester Wa­hoos tied for third place high points.

9/10 boys

Pay­ton Mor­ri­son Of the Cov- ington YMCA Pi­ran­has was awarded first place high points swim­ming for first place in the 50-free, 25-free and 25-back. Joseph Wil­liams of Mead­ow­brook took home sec­ond place high points and Justin Byrd of the Deer Run Dol­phins re­ceived the third place high point tro­phy.

The 11 year old and up age group com­peted in the af­ter­noon ses­sion.

11/12 girls

High point win­ner Sarah Ri­ley of Cov­ing­ton YMCA took first place ti­tles in the 100-yard free, 100-IM and 50-fly. Thien-An May­nard from Westch­ester Lakes Wa­hoos took sec­ond place high points and Mad­die Lom­bard from Mead­ow­brook took third place high points.

11/12 boys

High point win­ner Keller White from Deer Run swam the 100-yard free, 50-yard free and 50-yard back­stroke. Jonathan Gaines of the Brent­wood Bar­racu­das and Ni­cholas McCart­ney of the Mead­ow­brook Mar­lins took sec­ond and third place high points re­spec­tively.

13/14 girls

The Deer Run Dol­phins swept the high points cat­e­gory with De­laney Wil­lette swim­ming a per­fect score for first place in the 100-yard free, 100-yard in­di­vid­ual med­ley and the 50-yard back­stroke. Brittany Ma­jor took sec­ond place high points and Caro­line Turner was awarded third place high points.

13/14 boys

Ryan Curry from the Brent­wood Bar­racu­das took home the high point tro­phy win­ning the 100-yard free, 50-yard free and 50-fly. Sean Jack­son of the YMCA Pi­ran­has took sec­ond place high points in this di­vi­sion and Chris Flessas from Westch­ester Lakes was awarded third place high points.

15 and up girls

Sara Jean Lane of Brent­wood swam for first place in the 100yard free, 100-yard in­di­vid­ual med­ley and the 50-yard fly. Alyssa Hearn and Abby Miller both of Deer Run placed for sec­ond and third place high points re­spec­tively.

15 and up boys

Matthew Ben­nett of the Brent­wood Bar­racu­das re­ceived first place high points for his wins in the 50-yard free, 50-yard fly and 50-yard breast­stroke. Dy­lan Weathersby of YMCA Pi­ran­has was awarded sec­ond place high points and Alex Bar­rus of Westch­ester Wa­hoos took third place high points.

Re­lay events

The teams com­peted for wins with each swim team se­cur­ing points to add to their team over­all score. The Deer Run Dol­phins 9/10 age group Re­lay A teams swept their re­lay races con­tribut­ing first place scores for the Dol­phins.

The win­ner is…

The over­all team re­sults awarded the Brent­wood Bar­racu­das with the third place team tro­phy. The Westch­ester Lake Wa­hoos earned the sec­ond place tro­phy. The Deer Run Dol­phins took home the first place tro­phy, tak­ing the ti­tle from the Cov­ing­ton YMCA who held the ti­tle for the pre­vi­ous few years.

The Rock­dale Swim League is made up of swim teams as­so­ci­ated with neigh­bor­hoods, sub­di­vi­sions, or ath­letic clubs lo­cated within and around Rock­dale County, Ge­or­gia. The in­tent of the Rock­dale Swim League (RSL) is to pro­vide a recre­ational sum­mer swim pro­gram for chil­dren and youth ages five to 18 with an em­pha­sis on en­hanc­ing in­di­vid­ual swim tech­niques and strokes, wa­ter safety and sports­man­ship.
