Man shot in the leg on the Fourth

An al­leged ar­gu­ment led to some­one get­ting shot in the leg in the area of Green Acres Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports two men were ex­chang­ing words through­out the day, be­fore one of them, the shoot­ing sus­pect, went to pur­chase more al­co­hol with an­other male, a wit­ness to the shoot­ing.

The wit­ness told an of­fi­cer with the Cov­ing­ton Po­lice Depart­ment that when the two got back to Pine Nee­dle, the sus­pect al­legedly re­moved a Glock model 19 hand­gun from his cen­ter con­sole. He then re­port­edly be­gan run­ning to­ward the vic­tim, who had been sit­ting on the porch on the side of his house, and started shoot­ing.

The vic­tim ran off the porch and fled around his house, ac­cord­ing to re­ports.

The wit­ness told of­fi­cers the sus­pect went into the house and placed the gun in a room and fled on foot.

Of­fi­cers were later able to re­trieve the al­leged hand gun in a laun­dry bas­ket within a closet in one of the house’s bed­rooms.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the vic­tim was taken in a pri­vate ve­hi­cle to New­ton Med­i­cal Cen­ter, where he was ques­tioned by CPD.

War­rants for the ar­rest are pend­ing by CPD.

CPD Cap­tain Craig Tread­well said that was the only ma­jor in­ci­dent in Cov­ing­ton on July 4. There was one re­ported DUI, along with four dis­charg­ing firearms calls Fri­day.
