The Covington News - - OPINION -

Seemingly thousands came to the Square for the Fourth of July fireworks. What do you think of the show?

Tina McCrory: “We were surprised that they started before 9:40, too, but they were awesome! We really enjoyed them!” Laurie Malcom Walker: “We watched from the parking lot at New Life praise center on stone mountain street. . Great view and great people.”

Angie DeKiere: “It was great, we need more kids activities though. But we still had fun!”

Bradley Cameron

Walden: “Awesome show but was surprised at how few vendors were there and not a lot of things for kids to do.”

Cyrelle GW: “It was awesome, first time coming to the square. My 5yrs old was amazed!!”

Randi Lee Lester said:

“It’s not just what I think of the fireworks show, it’s what I think of the whole day. I visited the Square several times today, between watching the Peachtree Road Race, smoking some ribs and watching the Braves win their 8th straight. We had a cookout with some friends and then drove our golf cart to the Square. Enjoyed some really great music and completely enjoyed the diversity of age, color and music as well as the fabulous fireworks.

I have only lived here 8 years, but I was so proud of my new hometown. Special kudos go out to the Mayor, City Manager, City Council, the Arts Association, Main Street and so many others for making this special day possible. For those of you who think the money could have been better spent elsewhere, I say “Bah, humbug”; this celebration is just what Covington needed.

The “Drive Time” band is the best party band I have ever heard, and they’re all “home grown”. Today I was proud to be an American and a Covingtonian.”
