Gooden says the prac­tice sees 20 year olds with melanoma. With the pop­u­lar­ity of tanning, it is im­por­tant to take mea­sures to pro­tect your skin from can­cer by wear­ing sun­block. When ap­ply­ing, re­mem­ber:

— Use be­tween 30-35 SPF. Gooden says more SPF does not mean bet­ter pro­tec­tion. 30-35 SPF is sub­stan­tial for pre­vent­ing can­cer and ag­ing.

— Gooden says reap­pli­ca­tion is the most im­por­tant thing to re­mem­ber. Reap­ply ev­ery 3-3.5 hours.

— Use a sun­screen with zinc ox­ide.

— Re­strict use of tanning beds.
