Mrs. La­vancy Ben­ton Hen­der­son, age 87, of Cov­ing­ton passed away July 25, 2014. She was born in New­ton County, Ge­or­gia to the late Seals Ben­ton and Ella Claude Ben­ton.

Mrs. Hen­der­son at­tended Wash­ing­ton Street School. In 1945 she mar­ried Isaac Hen­der­son, Sr. and had six chil­dren. She joined Sims Chapel Bap­tist Church at an early age and af­ter mar­riage moved her mem­ber­ship to Saint Paul AME Church, where she be­came a mem­ber of the Se­nior Choir. Pri­mar­ily she was a home­maker. In later years, Mrs. Hen­der­son was em­ployed with C.R. Bard Inc. in Cov­ing­ton, Ge­or­gia un­til her re­tire­ment. She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band Isaac Hen­der­son, Sr.

Mrs. Hen­der­son is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Isaac, Jr., Janie H. Giles, Jean (Boykin) Ed­wards, Thur­man and Emer­son; grand­chil­dren, Bridgitte Giles Lawrence, LaNe­dra Giles, Dr. Rachelle Ed­wards (Mar­cus) Bid­dles, Tonya Ed­wards, Shayna Hen­der­son Clem­mons, Brandy Branche; grea t grand­chil­dren, Bryant, Lomonte’, De’Mario, DeMecko, Bran­ton, MarCiona, DeAnte, Cor­dric, Zion and McKen­zie; sis­ters, Lu­cille Dun­lap, Wil­lie Kay Dur­den and Bet­tye Fallen, nieces, neph­ews, cousins and friends.

Funeral ser­vices for Mrs. Hen­der­son were held at 11 a.m. on Thurs­day, July 31 at St. Paul AME. In­ter­ment fol­lowed at Lawn­wood Memo­rial Park 1111 Ac­cess Road, Cov­ing­ton, Ge­or­gia.

Honorary Pall­bear­ers were Mr. Ed­die Baker, Mr. James Mullins, Mr. Jessie Cle­ments, Mr. Ti­mothy Reed, Mr. Melvin Cle­ments, Mr. Leon Smith, Mr. Wil­lie Jones, Mr. Linnell Thomas, Mr. Billy Mid­dle­ton and Mr. Charles Wil­liams.

Pall­bear­ers were Mr. Ed­die L. Baker, Dr. Melvin O. Baker, Rev. Wil­lie Gene Davis, Mr. Ricky Reed, Mr. Leon Reed and Mr. Gre­gory Reed.

Honorary Flo­ral Bear­ers were Mrs. Mary Baker, Mrs. Edith Camp, Mrs. Le­ola Gibbs, Ms. Beu­lah John­son, Mrs. Poc­a­han­tas Reed, Ms. Vi­vian Sawyers and Ms. Lizzie Ruth Smith.

Flo­ral Bear­ers were Mrs. Gwendolyn Ben­ton, Ms. Geral­dine Cullins, Ms. Brenda Gail Reed, Ms. Ann Spear­man, Ms. David­lyn Strong and Mrs. War­nell Wil­liams.
