At­lanta men’s ABA team to host free back-to-school jam­boree at Salem

An agree­ment has been fi­nal­ized that Salem High School will be the new home venue of the At­lanta Wild­cats for the 2014-2015 sea­son, which starts in Novem­ber.

The Wild­cats are an ex­pan­sion team play­ing in the Amer­i­can Bas­ket­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (ABA). The Wild­cats will host their first pre-sea­son game, a back to school jam­boree, this Satur­day at 1 p.m. Ad­mis­sion is free for every­one.

The teams play­ing will be the At­lanta Wild­cats, the South­west War­riors ABA Team, the Gainesville Heat ABA team and the At­lanta Po­lice De­part­ment bas­ket­ball team.

“We’re go­ing to do great things this sea­son for the school and in Rock­dale County this year,” Wil­liam D. Pay­ton IV, owner of the Wild­cats, said. “...The school is of­fer­ing us a lot of sup­port and we’ll be able to re­turn the fa­vor from host­ing fundrais­ing games and giv­ing back a por­tion of ticket sales to the ath­letic de­part­ment.”

The sea­son opener is sched­uled for Novem­ber 29, ver­sus the Gainesville Heat. The Wild­cats’ web­site (at­lantaw­ild­cats. com) will be up­dated with the start time and the fi­nal­ized sea­son sched­ule as the sea­son gets closer.

The Wild­cats’ will have their first free-agent try­out camp Au­gust 23, 1 p.m. at Salem. For more in­for­ma­tion call 404951-2721.

The Wild­cats will host char­ity games, fundrais­ing events and com­mu­nity ser­vice projects in Rock­dale and New­ton County this year. Last year, the team went un­de­feated, rank­ing fourth in the league out of 98 teams in the United States.
