Weekend traffic forecast: Ugly

The Covington News - - FRONT PAGE -

It’s a safe bet traffic this weekend will be terrible when the spokesman for the Georgia Department of Transportation says “you simply don’t want to be on Interstate 285.”

The DOT will “continue a trio of projects likely to test the patience of I-285 weekend motorists and the air conditioning of their vehicles,” David Spear wrote in a press release Thursday. So avoid the Perimeter.

Don’t expect a break locally, either. Workers in Newton County will close two outside (right) Interstate 20 eastbound lanes between Almon Road and the U.S. 278 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday, until 5 a.m. Monday for resurfacing.

Other work-related closures are planned Interstate 75 northbound, I-575 southbound, and on Freedom Parkway.
