I-20 lane clo­sures re­sume this week­end

An­swer: When the Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion an­nounces week­end road clo­sures with a rah-rah for the lo­cal foot­ball team. In this case the At­lanta Fal­cons.

“It’s a ‘Rise Up’ week­end” is the head­line for a Thurs­day DOT re­lease. “As the Fal­cons launch their drive for the Su­per Bowl this week­end, (DOT) crews and con­trac­tors will re­sume their push to­ward con­clu­sion of the 2014 con­struc­tion sea­son.”

Weather per­mit­ting, west­bound lanes on In­ter­state 20 in New­ton and Rock­dale coun­ties be­tween Salem Road and Stock­bridge High­way will be closed all week­end, as well as the east­bound exit and en­trance ramps the U.S. 278/I-20 in­ter­change in Cov­ing­ton.

The ramps will also be closed from noon Sun­day, Sept. 7, through noon, Fri­day, Sept. 12.

“There is a good chance that rain will at least in­ter­rupt, if not can­cel” con­struc­tion, the DOT re­lease says.
