Co­hen’s 68th An­niver­sary Sale Marks Big­gest Event of Year

W. Co­hen Company’s 68th An­niver­sary Sale will start this morn­ing (Thurs­day) and con­tinue for 10 days, ac­cord­ing to a 6-page ad­ver­tis­ing sec­tion in The Cov­ing­ton News to­day.

The Co­hen firm, one of the old­est busi­nesses in the City was founded by Abe Co­hen 68 years ago in the sale lo­ca­tion as it is to­day. As Cov­ing­ton and New­ton County has grown, Co­hen’s has ex­panded twice tak­ing in the store space be­hind it and the store ad­ja­cent on Mon­ti­cello Street.

Owner and op­er­a­tor of the store is Leon Co­hen, along with his son Phillip. The firm has 25 full­time and part­time em­ploy­ees. Other than Leon and Phillip Co­hen the em­ploy­ees are: Neal Banks, Mrs. Mary Banks, Mrs. Win­nie McEl­roy, Mrs. Ruth Gun­nells, Mrs. Vera Gar­ner, Mrs. Claire El­lis, Mrs. Ad­die Mae King, Mrs. Mary Lou Al­mand, Mrs. Ven­nie Nunn, Ernest Darby, Mrs. Nell Bryant, Mrs. Ruth H King, Mrs. Myrna Ca­son, Miss Brenda Cham­bers, Miss Gail Hin­ton, Miss Carol Hayes, Robert Budd, Jimmy Mooney, Julius John­son, Mrs. Char­lotte Adams, Mrs. Fran El­izer, Mrs. Sy­bil Elling­ton, Miss San­dra Se­abolt and Wil­lie King.

Each year the Co­hen An­niver­sary Sale is the sale of sales for their store. This year the man­u­fac­turer’s that Co­hen’s buys from have co=op­er­ated by mak­ing spe­cial low prices on items of new fall mer­chan­dise in or­der to make this a re­ally big sale with many spe­cial bar­gains.
