New­ton Coaches To Speak At Ki­wa­nis Meet­ing

New­ton County High School foot­ball coaches Mil­ton McLaney and Bobby Way will be the guest speak­ers at the Cov­ing­ton Ki­wa­nis meet­ing to­day (Thurs­day) at Le­gion Home at 1 o’clock.

NCHS Prin­ci­pal Homer F. Sharp will have charge of the pro­gram to­day and will present the coaches at the meet­ing. Two mem­bers of the 1960 foot­ball squad will also at­tend the meet­ing with their men­tors.

Coach McLaney is in his fifth year as head coach at the lo­cal high school. His record thus far at NCHS in­cludes 21 vic­to­ries, 18 de­feats and two tie games. The two best sea­sons Coach McLaney has ex­pe­ri­enced with the Rams were in 1957 and 1958 when the team won 7, lost 2 and tied 1, in each of those years.

Prior to com­ing to Cov­ing­ton McLaney coached at Mon­ti­cello for six years. In 1955 his team won the State Class Cham­pi­onship.

Coach Way is a na­tive of Swains­boro and played his col­lege foot­ball at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn. He coached two years at Cartersville be­fore com­ing to New­ton County in 1958.
