Newton Coaches To Speak At Kiwanis Meeting
Newton County High School football coaches Milton McLaney and Bobby Way will be the guest speakers at the Covington Kiwanis meeting today (Thursday) at Legion Home at 1 o’clock.
NCHS Principal Homer F. Sharp will have charge of the program today and will present the coaches at the meeting. Two members of the 1960 football squad will also attend the meeting with their mentors.
Coach McLaney is in his fifth year as head coach at the local high school. His record thus far at NCHS includes 21 victories, 18 defeats and two tie games. The two best seasons Coach McLaney has experienced with the Rams were in 1957 and 1958 when the team won 7, lost 2 and tied 1, in each of those years.
Prior to coming to Covington McLaney coached at Monticello for six years. In 1955 his team won the State Class Championship.
Coach Way is a native of Swainsboro and played his college football at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn. He coached two years at Cartersville before coming to Newton County in 1958.
