Wal­ter S. Avery Dies Mon­day in At­lanta

Mr. Wal­ter S. Avery, 59 years of age, a prom­i­nent cit­i­zen of Cov­ing­ton, and a na­tive of the Rocky Plains dis­trict of this county, died Mon­day morn­ing in an At­lanta hos­pi­tal, fol­low­ing an ill­ness of sev­eral weeks.

When a young man, Mr. Avery mar­ried Miss Chloe Davis, of Rocky Plains and resided in that com­mu­nity un­til nine years ago, when he moved with his fam­ily to North Cov­ing­ton.

Fu­neral ser­vices were con­ducted on Tues­day af­ter­noon at the Cov­ing­ton Pres­by­te­rian church by Rev. S.A. Gates with in­ter­ment in the city ceme­tery.

In ad­di­tion to his wife, he is sur­vived by six daugh­ters, Mrs. C B. Bran­ham, of At­lan- ta; Mrs. W. D. Stokes, Mrs. Grier Ho­lifield, abeth of Cov­ing­ton; three sons, W. Glenn of Statesville, N.C; S. Howard and R. Earl, of Cov­ing­ton; two sis­ters, Mrs. Will Allen , of Cov­ing­ton , and two brothers, W.E., of De­catur, and N. S., of Cov­ing­ton.

J.C. Harwell and Son, fu­neral direc­tors, were in charge.
