Jesse D. Pat­ten, 79, of Cov­ing­ton, died Sun­day, Septem­ber 14, 2014 at New­ton Med­i­cal Cen­ter. Mr. Pat­ten was born in Rich­land to the late Jesse Greene and Vi­ola Gun­nels Pat­ten.

Mr. Pat­ten had many nick­names such as “JD”, “Pat” and “Pop” and was the owner and op­er­a­tor of Bai­ley’s Gro­cery Store, and other area stores. He served in the US Army dur­ing the Viet­nam War. Mr. Pat­ten was a great lover of the out- doors, es­pe­cially fish­ing.

He is sur­vived by his chil­dren Don (Deb­bie) Pat­ten, of Cony­ers, and Jessica Pat­ten, of Charleston, WV, Ray­mond Vorhes, Cov­ing­ton, and Michael Vorhes, of Cov­ing­ton; grand­chil­dren, Megan Pat­ten, Jessica How­ell, Rachel Martin, Ni­cole Pat­ten, Cheyenne Pat­ten, Christina Pat­ten, Christo­pher Vorhes, Jeremy Vorhes, Dan­nielle In­gram, and Jar­rett Vorhes; sis­ters, Eve­lyn Brooks, Mon­roe, GA and Joan Sum­mer­field of Mor­gan­ton, NC. and 13 great-grand­chil­dren. In ad­di­tion to his par­ents Mr. Pat­ten is pre­ceded in death by his grand­son Roy Dal­las Glover.

A memo­rial ser­vice will be held at The Church at Cov­ing­ton, at 2 p.m. Wed­nes­day Sept/ 17, 2014 with Pas­tor Judy Sut­ton of­fi­ci­at­ing. In lieu of flow­ers do­na­tions in Jesse D. Pat­ten’s name may be made to DNR Fish­eries 2070 Hwy. 278 SE So­cial Cir­cle, GA 30025.
