New­ton soc­cer player Car­lvon Betts is re­mem­bered by his team af­ter he passed Wed­nes­day

New­ton County School Sys­tem Direc­tor of Public Re­ac­tions, Sherri Davis-Viniard says that the high schools will honor Car­lvon Betts – New­ton soc­cer player, who passed away this week – March 25 at Sharp Sta­dium where the Rams will play Al­covy.

New­ton will re­tire Betts’ jer­sey at the game, and Tracy Betts’ says all gamne pro­ceeds will go to the Car­lvon Betts soc­cer schol­ar­ship fund, that she hopes to con­tinue for years to come. Ex­tend­ing the schol­ar­ship to all schools in New­ton and Rock­dale county. No other events are planned at this time Davis-Viniard said.

“New­ton County School Sys­tem extends its sin­cere con­do­lences to the fam­ily of Car­lvon Betts, a stu­dent at New­ton High School and the New­ton Col­lege and Ca­reer Academy. Car­lvon died Wed­nes­day morn­ing as a re­sult of in­juries he sus­tained in a car ac­ci­dent Tues­day evening,” Davis-Viniard said in a news re­lease.

She added, “We hope that ev­ery­one will re­spect the Betts fam­ily’s pri­vacy dur­ing this very dif­fi­cult time. Please con­tinue to keep Car­lvon’s fam­ily and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

New­ton stu­dents wrote mes­sages and signed their names on this poster, and left it along with some flow­ers in Car­lvon Betts’ desk.
