John Howard John­son, of Cov­ing­ton, passed away April 5, 2015, at the age of 73. Af­ter work­ing for the State of Ge­or­gia as an ac­coun­tant, Mr. John­son started his own busi­ness pro­vid­ing tax prepa­ra­tion and fi­nan­cial ser­vices across Metropoli­tan At­lanta for 17 years un­til his re­tire­ment. He was a pri­vate pi­lot and en­joyed fish­ing, play­ing golf and watch­ing NASCAR. An up­stand­ing cit­i­zen in the com­mu­nity, he was a mem­ber of the Gideons in New­ton County, serv­ing as trea­surer for many years, and was a char­ter mem­ber of East New­ton Bap­tist Church. In ad­di­tion, he proudly served his coun­try in the US Air Force. He was pre­ceded in death by his first wife, Bar­bara Ann Ben­zel; and his par­ents, Solomon John­son and Sadie Gra­ham.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife of five years, Kathy Ellsworth John­son; son and daugh­ter-in-law, Curtis and Mar­i­anne John­son; and grand­daugh­ters, Vic­to­ria and Isabella John­son.

Fu­neral Ser­vices for Mr. John­son were held Wed­nes­day, April 8, 2015, 11 a.m., at Cald­well & Cowan Fu­neral Home, 1215 Ac­cess Road, in Cov­ing­ton, with Rev. Roy Kiser of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed in Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial Park. Con­tri­bu­tions in his mem­ory may be made to Gideons In­ter­na­tional, P.O. Box 1762, Cov­ing­ton, GA 30015.
