Li­ons Club hosts BBQ sale Wed­nes­day

For the 43rd year the Cov­ing­ton Li­ons Club will host its An­nual Chicken BBQ, Wed­nes­day, April 15 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at its Academy Springs Park Club house on Cony­ers Street.

Tick­ets are on sale now for $8 per plate, and can be pur­chased from any Li­ons Club mem­ber or at Ace Hard­ware in New­ton Plaza. Plates in­clude a half chicken slow-roasted over an open pit, cole slaw, bread, chips and iced tea. Desserts will be avail­able for a do­na­tion. A drive-through sta­tion will also be avail­able across the street at the Le­gion Hall park­ing lot.

Money from the BBQ Chicken fundraiser goes to four Li­ons Club char­i­ties that in­cludes: Ge­or­gia Light­house for the Blind, Ge­or­gia Camp for the Blind, Ge­or­gia Leader Dogs and Li­ons Club In­ter­na­tional. Also, the Li­ons award six schol­ar­ships to grad­u­at­ing se­niors from Al­covy, East­side and New­ton high schools. The Schol­ar­ship Com­mit­tee is re­view­ing over 23 ap­pli­cants thus far.

Onions are com­ing

The Ro­tary Club of Cov­ing­ton is host­ing its an­nual Vi­dalia Onion sale. A bag of onions are $20 and will help ben­e­fit Ro­tary pro­grams such as the Empty Stock­ing Fund, which sup­plies presents to fam­i­lies in need.

The Ro­tary Club meets weekly at the First United Methodist Church of Cov­ing­ton, and this week’s guest speaker was long-time CPD of­fi­cer and As­sis­tant Po­lice Chief Almond Turner.

FFA camp at Ki­wa­nis

At the Ki­wa­nis Club of Cov­ing­ton’s weekly meet­ing Thurs­day, held at the First United Methodist Church of Cov­ing­ton, the day’s speaker was from the FFA Camp.

The Ge­or­gia FFA-FCCLA Cen­ter is lo­cated at 720 FFAFHA Camp Road in Cov­ing­ton and of­fers ser­vices such as sum­mer camps, day meet­ings, week­end re­treats and week­day con­fer­ences.

The FFA Cen­ter will be host­ing its Ba­sic Wildlife Camp July 5-10 and July 12-17 for boys and girls ages 10-15.
