Porterdale Main Street Director Terri Haler will be leaving her post to be the new tourism director for the city of Conyers.

Haler’s last day working with Porterdale will be Friday, according to city manager Bob Thomson. She started with its Main Street program in 2013, after working with Newton County’s tourism department and volunteering with Covington’s Main Street program.

She had been with Newton County tourism since 2006, and was treasurer since 2007. In her role, she helped develop Main Street Covington’s advertising and work within its budget.

That experience made her a natural fit for Porterdale’s Main Street Director when Mayor Arline Chapman, City Manager Bob Thompson and City Councilman Tim Savage were interviewing director candidates.

Haler’s first day working with Conyers tourism will be Monday, according to Conyers Public Relations Director Jennifer Edwards. Haler is replacing former tourism director Harriet Gattis, who retired in January after nearly 20 years with the city.
