The Youth Em­pow­er­ment So­ci­ety will host its very first event Aug. 15 from noon un­til 8 p.m. at the Youth Em­pow­er­ment Back to School Bash.

Gates open to the public at 11:45 a.m. at the New­ton County Fair­grounds, or Le­gion Field, at 3183 Mill Street in Cov­ing­ton.

Free food, free give­aways, free school sup­plies, in­flat­a­bles, games, speak­ers, a tal­ent show­case and end-of-the-evening Dance Your Way to Suc­cess Glow Party are sched­uled for the group’s first event.

The event is free, with the hope that youth at­tend­ing the event will walk away em­pow­ered with tools for a suc­cess­ful school year and a suc­cess­ful life.

Speak­ers will also be com­ing from noon4 p.m.

At­tor­ney Tomieka Richard Daniel, Su­per­vis­ing At­tor­ney for Ge­or­gia Le­gal Ser­vices Pro­gram, Ma­con, Ge­or­gia and Founder of Se­crets and Stilet­tos will present on the topic of teen dat­ing vi­o­lence.

At­tor­ney Gerald A. Griggs, Gerald A. Griggs, LLC, De­catur, Ge­or­gia will speak on Anti-Bul­ly­ing.

C.H.A.M.P.S. of New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice will present on is­sues such as Drug, Al­co­hol and To­bacco Abuse Preven­tion; Gangs and Vi­o­lence; Peer Pres­sure/Bul­ly­ing; In­ter­net Safety

Cap­tain Sammy Banks, New­ton County Sher­iff’s Of­fice will present on Pos­i­tive In­ter­ac­tions with Law En­force­ment and What Is Ex­pected Dur­ing a Traf­fic Stop or Other In­ter­ac­tion with Law En­force­ment.

Tommy Gre­gory, Asst. Coach New­ton Rams Football, will close out the speak­ing pro­gram with an in­spi­ra­tional mes­sage, light­ing a fire un­der the youth for a suc­cess­ful school year.

Mil­i­tary and col­lege re­cruiters are ex­pected to be present. We have also asked lo­cal artists and ath­letes to par­tic­i­pate and en­cour­age our youth to get on a path to suc­cess.

Fol­low­ing our speak­ers, we will have a tal­ent show­case al­low­ing lo­cal youth to per­form and present their var­i­ous tal­ents. This is not a tal­ent show with win­ners and losers. This is a tal­ent show­case where all of the per­form­ers are win­ners.

Fi­nally, we will close out the evening with a Glow in the Dark Dance party from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. The youth can bring their own glow sticks, glow neck­laces, etc. but we in­tend to have some avail­able. Sup­plies may be lim­ited

We are ex­cited about all that will be of­fered at this amaz­ing event. Ev­ery­thing will be free for the par­tic­i­pat­ing youth. We need your help to pull off this event. We need your time and par­tic­i­pa­tion. We need your do­na­tions of wa­ter, Ga­torade, school sup­plies,

book bags, etc. We need your fi­nan­cial sup­port. We need you to as­sist us in em­pow­er­ing the youth.

John­son, LLC 2008 Eastview Park­way, Suite 700, Cony­ers, GA 30013 be­tween the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. A box will be lo­cated just out­side the door of Suite 700 (lo­cated on the sec­ond floor) for col­lect­ing your do­na­tion.
