Early runoff voting ends July 22
As of Friday afternoon 863 Newton County residents have voted in person, and another 148 sent in absentee ballots for the 2016 Primary Runoff during early voting.
Early voting at the Newton County Administration Building runs through July 22. Election Day for the runoff is July 26 at precincts throughout the county.
The election is county wide due to the Democrat candidate for county chair being contested between Marcello Banes and Phil Johnson. District 43 voters, who cast a Democrat ballot during the primary election on May 24, can vote for either Tonya Anderson or Dee Dawkins-Haigler.
District 5 of the Board of Commissioners will have an election decided after July 26, due to only Republicans quali- fying for the election. After May’s primary, Ronnie Cowan and Jared Rutberg entered a runoff.
Voters who cast a Republican ballot in District 5 can cast a ballot for either Cowan or Rutberg in the primary runoff.
