the year. In 1981, the Teacher of the Year Award was given to Mrs. June Dyson Brown who taught at Liv­ingston Ele­men­tary School. A lo­cal po­lice of­fi­cer, at the time, was mak­ing a rou­tine traf­fic stop, and then found him self sur­rounded by three men and a ju­ve­nile with ri­fles. They emerged from one of the res­i­dences around the street, at­tempt­ing to keep the of­fi­cer from mak­ing a traf­fic ar­rest. They went back in­side their home and promptly re­turned with ri­fle in hand to es­ca­late the sit­u­a­tion. They were all put un­der ar­rest for ob­struct­ing an of­fi­cer and point­ing a gun at an­other. This teaches us a les­son about show­ing re­spect to law en­force­ment, for most of the time they are only try­ing to do their job just like you and I.
