Tomb of Un­known Sol­dier guard speaks at DAR pro­gram

Herb Smith, a mem­ber of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Un­known Solider So­ci­ety, spoke dur­ing a pro­gram hosted by the Sergeant New­ton Chap­ter, of the Na­tional So­ci­ety of Daugh­ters of the Amer­i­can Rev­o­lu­tion at Mer­ry­vale on Oct. 12.

Smith is part of a 501 (c) (3) non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion com­mit­ted to pro­tect­ing and en­hanc­ing the wel­fare and im­age of the Tomb of the Un­known Sol­dier (Tomb) and the sol­diers (Tomb Guards) who stand guard, past and present. Their mis­sion is to ed­u­cate the gen­eral pub­lic about the Tomb of the United States of Amer­ica’s un­known war heroes, pre­serve the his­tory and tra­di­tions re­lat­ing to the Tomb, pro­vide as­sis­tance to the Tomb and the cur­rent Tomb Guards and their fam­i­lies.

The goal of the so­ci­ety is to make cer­tain in­di­vid­u­als that made the ul­ti­mate sac­ri­fice of their life for our free­dom are not for­got­ten, and the gen­eral pub­lic un­der­stands this price of free­dom.
