Two goals by Malaya Yamasaki, the first with 33:35 left and the second with 5:50 left, plus a beautiful strike by Madison Morvik with only 1:10 remaining stretched the Lady Eagles final to 4-0. The win was Lady Eagles coach Joel Singleton’s 70th of his career, an all-time coaching record at Eastside.
In boys action, Eastside topped Morrow 2-0 after a scoreless first half on a goal by senior Cameron Madsen with 21:37 left, and a successful penalty kick by senior Billy Love with 10:35 remaining in the match.
Eastside Coach Champ Young will lead his Eagles to the Class AAAA state playoffs for a program record fourth time, breaking a tie with former Eagle coach Trent Weiser and current Lady Eagle coach Joel Singleton who each took 3 teams to state.
The Eagles (9-7, 3-3 Region 4AAAA) will be the No. 4 seed from Region 4-AAAA and will face Mary Persons (14-2-2, 9-1 Region 2AAAA), the No. 1 seed from Region 2-AAAA, Wednesday in Forsyth in first round action. The two schools also met in the first round of state in 2011 with the Eagles advancing to the second round for the first time ever with a 2-1 win.
